Over the years, guests from near and far have come to know and love the intimate, upscale experience that Bowdie’s offers. So much so, that it’s hard to believe it all began just ten years ago in a small lakeside town.
Where It All Began
Scott Bowdish, founder and owner of Bowdie’s Chophouse, has always been an entrepreneur at heart. His journey began in an unexpected place: selling pagers from the trunk of his car at flea markets. That venture grew into a successful chain of cellular stores throughout the Chicagoland area, but after 25 years in the industry, Scott craved a new direction in his life.
As a dedicated foodie, Scott spent years dining at some of the most respected restaurants around the country. Living in downtown Chicago with his wife Lisa, their date nights often revolved around finding the perfect cut of beef. His love for steak became a passion, leading him to experiment with recipes, study different cooking techniques, and ultimately, realize his true calling.
After selling his cellular stores in 2013, Scott and Lisa moved to their favorite summer vacation town—Saugatuck, MI. It didn’t take long for them to realize something was missing, and in 2014, Bowdie’s Chophouse opened its doors, quickly earning a reputation for its world-class cuisine and exceptional service.

A Growing Legacy
What started as a single steakhouse in Saugatuck has grown into a collection of four beloved locations: Grand Rapids, MI; Lansing, MI; Saugatuck, MI; and Hilton Head, SC. And the growth isn’t slowing down. Two new locations are currently under construction in Savannah, GA, and Zionsville, IN, further expanding the Bowdie’s experience to new communities.
